The Charlotte Bobcats Continue Leaping towards Post-Season Play
What happens when your favorite NBA team moving to another city? Charlotte Hornets fans asked this question in 2002, when their beloved team moved to New Orleans. However, the NBA said that the issue of fretting fans quickly by appointing the Charlotte Bobcats as an expansion team that has hit the hard working Court in 2004. The team made history by becoming the first franchise in professional sports, with a majority African-American owner. It was Robert Johnson, founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET).

2004-2005:
Charlotte scored the second choice in their first NBA draft. They chose Emeka Okafor, who had just won an NCAA national championship with the Huskies of Connecticut. The Bobcats played their first game (at home) November 4, 2004. Unfortunately, they lost their season and opens franchise to the Washington Wizards, 103-96.
As expected for an expansion team, the Bobcats first season has been somewhat of an uphill battle. A highlight of the season was Emeka Okafor, who won the rookie of the year. He finished the season averaged 15.1 points per game and 10.9 rebounds per game.
2005-2006
At the beginning of the 2005-2006 season, the Bobcats had reason to think positively. First, the team has opened its new home: the Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Secondly, the Charlotte Bobcats had two players drafted University of North Carolina from championship team last year: Sean May and Raymond Felton. While the Bobcats have started the season strong, they have suffered a serious setback when Okafor ankle injury has sidelined him for the rest of the season. Cats finished their season with a record of 26-56. At the conclusion of the season, Michael Jordan, the famous player of the Chicago Bulls, became a minority shareholder in the Bobcats.
2006-2007
The Bobcats continued to improve. In their third season, they beat the Lakers in Los Angeles, the San Antonio Spurs and Cleveland Cavaliers. The last two teams play each other in the NBA Finals in 2007. However, the Bobcats still a work in progress, and finished the regular season with a 33-49 record.
2007-2008
The Bobcats have made several personnel changes during the offseason, hoping to capitalize on their improvements in the previous year. This included exchanges of players and hiring a new head coach. Unfortunately, Charlotte actually lost a game less than they had the previous season, reaching a record 32-50. At the end of the season, the Bobcats changed coaches head again, bring on board Larry Brown, coach of basketball Hall of Fame.
