Sixty years after Alpha Omega Theta began in the basement of a Brooklyn high school student, after four years of website development, fraternal reunions, and one year of writing and research, AOT member Frederick M. Gross takes the reader on a long, wild ride through the decades, from formal black tie ballroom dancing in Brooklyn to backyard keg parties on Long Island, all-out street war with other unions. Fraternal Brotherhood tells the story of a brotherhood of six decades and several chapters in the United States and Canada.
As author Frederick M Gross began his “dogging” days in Oceanside, New York, in February of 1978, Alpha Omega Theta fraternity was already a powerful multiple chapters in New York and Connecticut. There was much unrest and violence in the brotherhoods 1970’s-90’s. Fraternities were banned in Long Island high schools and are explained by the local police gangs. Public perception was negative, but Frederick M Gross states with pride that Alpha Omega Theta Fraternity young men into good citizens, with a combined roster of doctors, lawyers, accountants, contractors, entrepreneurs, owners, soldiers, politicians, athletes, and even Hollywood stars .
Fred Gross provides a remarkable history of the brotherhood of humble beginnings and violent end. After the Brotherhood began in 1946, the founders were determined to Alpha Omega Theta extend to the whole world. Two years after their inception, the fraternity is a non-profit organization with a rapidly growing membership roster. Today, the unions’ alumni meet regularly and plans are Alpha Omega Theta place in 21st century.
